Wal-Mart’s Walton Family Backs Startup Trying to Cut Food Waste

The Walton family, heirs to Wal-Mart, have invested in FoodMaven, a Colorado-based startup creating a marketplace to find buyers for food rejected by retailers but still safe to eat. The business has completed an $8.6 million Series A fundraising round, and currently has 700 customers in Colorado, including restaurants, hospitals and cafeterias. The company is expected to make $10 million in revenue this year.
