The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) today announced grantees for the Advanced Industry Accelerator Grant Program. A total of $2,931,851 will be awarded for the Proof-of-Concept and Early Stage Capital and Retention Grants to support Colorado’s advanced industries.
These grants are open to Colorado research universities, federal labs located in Colorado and other labs with valid technology transfer offices. The grants are for pre-commercialization research and commercialization preparation.

Agribotix: A drone-enabled software company, providing drone technologies and advanced data analytics to the precision agriculture market.
ProTechSure Scientific, Inc: Improving the quality of life for cancer patients through the development of Symphosil®, a new OTC Skin Protectant which will help patients to better tolerate their radiation treatments and lower the likelihood of severe skin damage.
Vairex Air Systems: VAIREX is developing a full line of air systems for the 1-25 kW fuel cell market, focused on fuel cells for telecommunications backups, forklifts, distributed generation and electric vehicle range extenders.
Prieto Battery Inc.: Through innovation in the negative electrode, Prieto intends to demonstrate a low cost, high capacity negative electrode utilizing an improved electrodeposition based manufacturing process.
Katasi LLC: Katasi Groove is the world’s first Cloud-based distracted driving solution, widely recognized as the first effective and broadly accepted technical solution to distracted driving.
BlackSwift Technologies, LLC: The Soil Moisture Mapping sUAS is a unique system enabled by a sensor developed in collaboration with CU Boulder, an aircraft designed and manufactured in Colorado, and a state-of-the-art flight management system developed by BST which enables operations and autonomy.
AMP Robotics: The innovation consists of robotic software and algorithms governing robotic hardware that will pick identified debris off a conveyer belt and place it into chutes corresponding to different waste categories. These robots will be complemented by a suite of sensors, for example a time-of-flight depth sensor, infrared camera, and a high definition camera, which will be used to determine the classification and pose of the waste.
Ocugen, Inc.: OCU100 is a recombinant form of lens epithelial derived growth factor (LEDGF) that is being developed as a new treatment for Retinitis Pigmentosa.
Fluonic, Inc.: Fluonic is developing its own line of infusion pumps utilizing its tested and patented flow sensing that will compete in the $500M home infusion/post operative pain pump market space, where lack of infusion monitoring creates a significant safety concerns and cost burden.
Evolutionary Genomics, Inc.: Using a patented gene identification technology, EG has identified, validated and patented genes that are responsible for conferring pest/disease resistance in soybeans, has further identified and partially validated orthologs of those genes in beans and cowpeas, and has identified gene candidates for pest resistance in cotton.
Applications are reviewed by committees that consist of business, technical and financial experts, as well as an industry-specific review. Final recommendations are reviewed and determined by the strategic oversight board, with guidance from the state Economic Development Commission.
The next application cycle for Early-Stage Capital and Retention and Proof of Concept Grants is now open. Applications are due on July 1, 2015.
The Advanced Industry Accelerator Programs (AIA) were created in 2013 to promote growth and sustainability in Colorado’s advanced industries by driving innovation, accelerating commercialization, encouraging public-private partnerships, increasing access to early stage capital and creating a strong infrastructure that increases the state’s capacity to be globally competitive. AIA encompasses three distinct grant programs: Proof of Concept, Early Stage Capital and Retention, and Commercialization Infrastructure.
