Overview

The Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) was created to foster a positive business climate that encourages economic development through support of local and regional economic development activities across Colorado. A comprehensive slate of programs within OEDIT’s divisions work together to offer economic development services for all Colorado businesses–new and expanding, traditional and emerging, small and large–including retention programs to ensure continued competitiveness of Colorado’s economic base.

Within OEDIT, the GBD division elevates Colorado businesses and communities by offering programs, services and incentives that foster an innovative and healthy economy where people, businesses and communities thrive. Such offerings include tax incentives and grant programs related to business recruitment, retention, expansion, foreign direct investment and data analytics services.

Internship program

Our internship program is designed to be an educational experience that offers a unique opportunity to learn about Colorado’s international programs and the state’s international activities.  We are willing to work with the academic schedules and requirements of our interns.

Position

The International Program Research Intern position is a key role on the Global Business Development Team. As a new member of the GBD team, the Intern will learn about Colorado’s Foreign Direct Investment and Export Promotion strategies.  Working on a major research project, this position provides an opportunity to contribute to the overall operations and international strategic activity of Global Business Development.

Responsibilities

Complete a research project comparing states’ programming for FDI Attraction and Export Promotion which should include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Research best practices across U.S. states for FDI Attraction and Export Promotion.
  • Identify key trade shows, conferences, and other activities in which other states participate.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to programming
  • Develop a list export resources that would include international consulting firms, PEOs and other companies that provide export assistance, databases, subscriptions, and other information resources
  • Provide recommendations on programmatic changes in the GBD Division

 

Requirements

  • A current college student with an emphasis in business, economics, finance, international relations, political science, statistics, or other relevant fields of study.
  • Commitment to complete a research project by the end of the internship.
  • Previous project experience in a formal office environment or through extra-curricular activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to good government, nonpartisanship and public service.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
  • Ability to work in an open-space environment and collaborate with a diverse team.
