The State Board of Examiners of Water Well and Pump Installation Contractors issues Water Well and Pump Installation Contractors Licenses to regulate the proper, safe construction of wells throughout the state.

Requires at least 2 years experience. Examination required. (Oral & written) Exams given every other month.
Must register each well drilling or pump installing rig to be operated. There is a $10.00 registration fee for each rig used for well drilling and/or pump installation.

Must obtain water well permit or authorization for each site. By law, every new well in the state that diverts ground water must have a well permit. The Groundwater staff determines the amount of water available and analyzes the potential for injury to other existing water rights under strict statutory guidelines. GEOTHERMAL WELLS: All subsurface geothermal fluids are part of the ground water resources of the State. The Division of Water Resources requires a permit for well construction. The Geothremal rules establish minimum standards for the construction, testing, operation, and abandonment of geothermal wells, and the reinjection of geothermal fluids.
